Gt Yarmouth office kicks off the Wider Energy Horizons Project

Wider Energy Horizons (WEH) is re-launching in Great Yarmouth with a new look and some new tools. The WEH project was originally launched in 2003 to help businesses in the East of England cope with changing circumstances in the energy industry. Following its success WEH will serve the Great Yarmouth region through enterprise Great Yarmouth, funded under LEGI (Local Enterprise Growth Initiative). WEH will provide senior Executives of the East Anglian regions energy industry SMEs, with one to one expert mentoring support, with the objective of helping them to globalise their business activities. Wider Energy Horizons is an advanced follow-on programme to the very successful New Energy Horizons project which Nautilus developed and John Balch managed for EEEGR during 2004 - 2005 . The original aim of NEH was to help Companies in the region develop new markets following closure of the Shell operations in Lowestoft.

Nautilus is supporting the National Hyperbaric Centre in Aberdeen

In February Nautilus Aberdeen office Principal Consultant Brian Redden began an assignment at the NHC in Aberdeen. Working closely with Managing Director David Smith and General Manager Bob Manson, Brian originally assumed responsibility for Special Projects, freeing them to concentrate on implementation of their ambitious plans for major expansion of the Centres activities. In early May he was asked to establish a new Development Engineering and Manufacturing capability at NHC to service market demand. Looks like he'll be there a while !!

Achievements we were proud of in 2006

Another good Crawfish Boil

For the sixth year running Nautilus Events staged the "Crawfish Boil" for Schlumberger in May last year. Historically held at Fraser Castle it was previously a one day event for the companys clients, but for 2006 a second day was added as a thankyou for Schlumberger staff and their families. Some 3000 people in total munched their way through more than 2 tons of crawfish (flown in live from Florida) whilst participating in the wide range of activities, from face painting and punch & judy for the kids to a live band and other "grown up pursuits" for the adults. The weather stayed reasonably kind and both days were a great success. Unfortunately Schlumberger plan to take management of the 2007 Crawfish Boil "in-house" - now that we've shown them how to do it ! Anyway; we wish our Schlumberger friends best of luck for 2007. We hope the event is as successful this year as it has been for the past six.

DOWNVInD

Nautilus is a consortium member in the DOWNVInD ( Distant Offshore Windfarms with No Visual Impact in Deepwater) project, with responsibility for EC liaison & reporting, running the project knowledge management programme and being webmaster of the project website .

In July/August 2006, the project successfully achieved a major milestone by installing the first of two 5 Mw wind turbines in the Beatrice oilfield offshore in the Moray Firth.

The project has made world news headlines by being the first to innovate in all of these areas:

  •  1st installation offshore in deepwater (45 metres) anywhere in the world
  •  1st 2 production units of the worlds largest capacity wind turbine - the RePower 5M
  •  1st "single lift vertical installation" ever attempted
  •  1st large renewable project where a major oil company (Talisman Energy (UK) Limited) and a major utility (Scottish & Southern Energy plc) have partnered.
